Musik Messe 2008 - Ecler

De verwachtingen waren de afgelopen weken bij de één wat hoger dan bij de ander wanneer het om de EVO4 ging van Ecler, het nieuwe paradepaardje in de EVO lijn van Ecler. Absolute kwaliteit, veel functies, en niet voor iedereen weg gelegd... of toch wel? Naast de EVO4 had Ecler ook de op NAMM gepresenteerde Nuo 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 modellen bij zich. Vooral cosmetische wijzigingen maar ook wat kleine veranderingen onder de motorkap waardoor de Nuo serie eigenlijk nog leuker wordt.

Op de Ecler stand zelf was weinig te beleven, Chainsaw van Interstate Audio heeft nog even staan draaien op de EVO4 en ik heb samen met hem ook nog even een beetje lopen spelen met de EVO5 voor publiek maar het was geen feest op de Ecler stand (met dank aan de Messe politie die iedere 5 minuten met een db meter langs liep ;-) ). Desalniettemin wel een hoop belangstelling voor de EVO4. Ik riep afgelopen weken na het uitlekken van de eerste foto's dat de EVO4 misschien wel helemaal niet zo interessant is als men zou denken maar ik moet eerlijk bekennen dat ik het niet helemaal bij het juiste eind had. De EVO5 is nog steeds HET paradepaard van Ecler en dat zal voorlopig ook wel zo blijven. Voor veel DJ's is de EVO5 echter TE ingewikkeld, midi is nog lang niet iets wat veel dj's gebruiken in een conventionele setup en men schikt een beetje van alle opties. Daarnaast is de EVO5 zoals het hoort bij een paradepaardje gewoon heel erg duur.

De EVO4 is heel anders dan de EVO5, een dubbele effect unit waar hele leuke dingen mee te doen zijn, 2 schermen voor alle informatie met betrekking tot de effecten (monochroom overigens) en een loop sampler. Eigenlijk een mixer die heel dicht tegen de DJM-800 aan zit qua functies maar het digitale gedeelte mist. Echter is het de vraag of veel mensen dat digitale gedeelte wel nodig vinden als men de prijs van de EVO4 hoort... die komt namelijk op 1199 euro te liggen en daarmee is de EVO4 fiks goedkoper dan de DJM-800 van Pioneer en heeft de EVO4 dingen die een 800 niet heeft zoals een uitgebreidere loop sampler, screens voor de effecten, en een dubbele effect unit. Toch verwacht ik niet dat veel aspirant DJM-800 kopers voor de EVO4 zullen gaan, veel mensen die Pioneer kopen doen dat om 2 redenen, kwaliteit en de naam. Ecler heeft de naam van Pioneer nog niet maar heeft wel dezelfde kwaliteit, sterker nog... ik durf er wel een wedje om te leggen dat faders e.d. in de EVO4 van een veel mooiere kwaliteit zijn dan men in welke DJM terug zal vinden.

Ik gok dat de EVO4 vooral zal gaan concurreren met de DJM-700/600 van Pioneer en met Ecler's eigen Nuo5. Is de EVO4 leuker dan de Nuo5 en de DJM-700/600... ik vind van wel maar ik heb zelf ook een lichte vorkeur voor het merk Ecler om dat het niet gebruikt word door de massa en het een hand made product is uit Europa. Daarnaast is Ecler nog enigszins "beïnvloedbaar". Ik ben al tijden aan het zeuren om een offline editor voor het midi gedeelte van de EVO5, en deze komt er waarschijnlijk, ik heb lopen zeuren om het verplicht moeten gebruiken van kanaal 1 & 2 bij het gebruik van TS in combinatie met de interne geluidskaart en ook dat lijkt aangepast te gaan worden... Ecler luistert dus ook nog naar zijn gebruikers en dat is iets waar ik persoonlijk veel waarde aan hecht.

Ecler EVO4

Dan natuurlijk nog de nieuwe .0 modellen van Ecler, behalve de cosmetische veranderingen zijn er ook een aantal dingen onder de motorkap veranderd. Zo zijn alle .0 Nuo mixers te voorzien van een Eternal fader en is zowel de cross fader als de line fader shape nu aan te passen naar wens. Je zit dus niet meer aan de curve vast die Ecler eerder altijd aan de line faders koppelde bij de Nuo serie. Verder zijn de knoppen voor o.a. de PFL veranderd en voorzien van een betere switch EN hebben de Nuo 3.0 en 4.0 een VU meter per kanaal gekregen. Een zinvolle update dus aan de Nuo serie.
