Op de Musik Messe van 2008 kwamen we hem al tegen, de Chinese kloon van de Pioneer DJM-400 welke luisterd naar de naam DJ-Tech DJM-404. Op het eerste gezicht exact hetzelfde als de Pioneer DJM-400 maar wanneer we alleen naar de specs op papier kijken zelfs nog leuker dan de DJM-400. Op de DJM-404 vinden we namelijk naast de effect unit ook nog een full duplex ingebouwde geluidskaart terug, een onboard sample bank, een record out en een gebalanceerde master uitgang.

Op papier dus een hele leuke mixer met meer functies dan het origineel heeft. Rest echter nog de vraag of het kwalitatief ook een beetje in orde is en ik ben er eerlijk gezegt bang voor dat men de Pioneer kwaliteit dan weer niet na heeft kunnen apen. Daarnaast vind ik de prijs voor een kloon aan de vrij hoge kant. Voor de DJM-404 van DJ-Tech zal namelijk een 350 euro neer geteld moeten worden en voor dat geld koop ik dan liever een IQ2 van Reloop...

Direct access In-Loop Sampler
An intelligent 24-bit/44.1kHz sampler automatically detects the tempo of a song during playback, sampling it for a length of 4 beats then loops the sample. Since the sampled sound is in sync with the beat of the tune being played, no matter the tempo, it enables live remixing like never before. Samples are automatically stretched and compressed to match the beat. The DJM-404 will store five samples onboard for 7 seconds each and a total of 35 seconds of sample time.

Onboard Effects and Equalization
Onboard effects automatically detect the BPM of the music and sync to the beats. The DJM-404 includes eight onboard effects: ECHO,TRANS, FLANGER, FILTER, PHASER, PAN, PITCH and REVERB . All effects are processed at 24-bits for the highest quality sound. A new beat select" button allows more intuitive and aggressive DJ playing and remixing.

Each channel has 3-band isolator EQ with full cut capability.
The EQ ranges from +9dB to -? (infinity) for total control of the sound.The DJM-404 offers a number of key features for professional DJs. It has the ability to select either of 2 microphone connections or one stereo line connection.

A fader start that starts playback by simply sliding the crossfader or channel fader when connected to a DJ-Tech CDJ product. A peak level meter with 10 Leds,  lets you check audio input levels for each channel or for the master using the switch , and a talk over" feature automatically lowers track volume for the DJ to speak over the track.
